Jeff Liberty showed he was a serious threat for a spot on the Olympic team with a solid 1999 season. He posted a string of successful results beginning in May at the Grand Prix meet in Montreal with a bronze on one-metre, his first career international medal. At the national championships a few weeks later he displayed his versatility placing first on one and 10-met re for his first two career Canadian crowns. Those performances earned him a berth at the Pan Am Games in Winnipeg, the city where he grew up and learned to dive. He placed fourth on three-metre with a personal best score competing before thousands which included family and friends. He also participated at the 2000 World Cup which gave him a taste of Olympic level competition.
