Rob Short, 27, got into the game of field hockey as the result of a
compromise. He wanted to play ice hockey, and his parents wanted him to
play soccer. Field hockey pleased them both. Born in England, in
Maidstone, near Kent, Short now considers the Netherlands his home where he
plays professionally with H.G.C. at The Hague since 1998. His girlfriend,
Fatima Moreira, plays for the Dutch national team and they will also be
competing at the Olympics in Sydney. Short is hopeful for a top-six world
ranking and a berth at the Champions Trophy, the marquee event in the sport
after the Olympics. His younger brother Peter is a national team hopeful.
When not playing or practicing field hockey, Rob is a fly fishing enthusiast.
