NEWFOUNDLAND - Republic of Doyle fans might be hard pressed to say which is more entertaining: Watching the TV private eye blunder his way through cases or soaking up the colourful images of St. John's, where the CBC-production is shot.

This summer, a new Maxxim Vacations package can help visitors wanting to retrace the exploits of Jake Doyle - played by Allan Hawco, also the show's executive producer and writer - or tour the P.I.'s hometown. The St. John's City of Legends package includes four-star B&B accommodation in a colourful wooden house, similar to those on the show, tours of famous sites, and a boat trip that provides a view of the Narrows, which is featured in the show¹s opening sequence.

Doyle fans will also want to stroll down Duckworth St., featured in many episodes, and stop for a pint at the Duke of Duckworth - where many Republic characters slake their thirst - before cabbing or hiking uphill to picturesque Quidi Vidi - another popular show backdrop.

When you've worked up an appetite, stop for a bite at the Inn of Olde (also featured on the show). And while you are touring, watch out for production crews: Filming for the second season of Republic of Doyle has already started.

The St. John's City of Legends package includes return airfare from several places in North America, five nights' accommodation, a five-day car rental with unlimited kilometres, and a voucher for fish and chips at Ches's Restaurants. Prices start at $1,359 with flights from Toronto. For details, contact maximvacations.com or 1-800-567-6666.
