Q: We've heard about a new hop on hop off bus in Delhi, India. How does it work?

-- J. Arsenault, Oshawa

A: India is gearing up for the 19th Commonwealth Games, which take place in Delhi Oct. 3-14. To prepare for the onslaught of visitors, a new hop on hop off sightseeing bus -- similar to those in London, Paris, New York, etc. -- goes into service Sept. 15.

The air-conditioned low-floor buses -- which have plenty of windows and are equipped with audio guides and brochures -- will travel along three different routes that include stops at museums, parks and shopping areas. The buses will make stops every 10-15 minutes with a full tour lasting 2.5 to 3 hours.

Scheduled stops include Jama Masjid, Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, Qutab Minar, Connaught Place, Santushti Complex, the Khan Market, and, of course, the Commonwealth Games venues.

Q: I want to take a family road trip to Kentucky. How many hours is the drive?

-- E. Sanderson, Toronto

A: A road trip to Kentucky from Toronto would take approximately eight to 10 hours. Cross the Ambassador Bridge in Windsor, travel along the I-75 south through Michigan then Ohio until you reach Kentucky. For Kentucky road conditions log onto transportation.ky.gov. Q: Do you have any suggestions for scenic drives in California?

-- W. Panewitch, Toronto

A: Consider these five scenic California routes:

-- US 101 runs the length hof the state from Crescent City to San Diego (1,181 km). Drivers can expect fabulous coastal scenery, redwood forests and plenty of surfer and sea lion action along the way.

-- Hwy. 49, which takes in Grass Valley to Sierraville, is all about history. You'll drive through quaint Gold Rush towns and high alpine forests.

-- US 395, the State Line to Bishop, provides stunning views of the eastern Sierra Nevadas. Visitors love the high desert and Mono Lake scenery.

-- Another cool trip is Hwy. 1 from Monterey to Morro Bay. This slice of the Golden State passes many well known attractions such as Hearst Castle, Bixby Bridge and the Point Lobos State Reserve.

-- For the truly adventurous, hit the Death Valley Scenic Byway in Death Valley National Park. The name pretty much says it all. Highlights include desert wildlife, spectacular landscapes and sand dunes for miles.

Recently California locals and tour operators came up with some Top Five lists in categories ranging from dining to road trips. You can view these at californiafives.com. Another good resource is California Road Trips 2010 available online at visitcalifornia.com/visitorsguide.
