Savvy travellers know that for good tips on the best things to see and do in a destination, ask a local. Recently the Canadian Tourism Commission took that concept a step further with a Locals Know campaign, which asked Canadians to nominate the best spots and events in the country. From the 3,000-plus stories, photos and comments uploaded to the Locals Know site, the CTC developed a Top 10 Hidden Travel Gems list. The list is based on the number of views generated on the campaign website. The Top 10 most-viewed spots are: 1. Georgian Bay, Tobermory, Ont. 2. Itcha Ilgachuz Provincial Park, Chilcotin Uplands, B.C. 3. Athabasca Sand Dunes, Lake Athabasca, Sask. 4. Caribana, Toronto. 5. Writing on Stone Provincial Park, Milk River, Alta. 6. Long Beach, Vancouver Island, Tofino, B.C. 7. The Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre, Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre, Que. 8. Dusk at Providence Bay Beach, Manitoulin Island, Ont. 9. Norstead Viking Village, Norstead Viking Village, Newfoundland & Labrador. 10. Rock Sculpture by Atlantic, Hopewell Cape, N.B. For Canadian vacation deals info, see localsknow.ca.
