Toronto hotel workers vote to strike ahead of G20 summit

By QMI Agency

TORONTO - More than 5,000 workers at 32 Toronto hotels are threatening to hit the bricks as the city prepares for the G20 summit.

Cicely Phillips, vice-president of Unite Here Local 75, said Thursday the employees voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strike should negotiations with the hotels break down.

"A majority of workers participted in the vote," she said. "And the vote to strike authorization is 94.2%."

Hotels potentially impacted include the downtown King Edward Hotel and Royal York Hotel.
