Canadians need vacation from technology: Survey

By QMI Agency

In order to fully enjoy a vacation, most Canadians say they need to unplug before they kick back, a new survey shows.

While 42% of Canadians surveyed in a recent online poll for travel website Expedia.ca said technology makes it easier to go on vacation because they can still connect to home and work while away, 34% said items like smartphones and laptops make it difficult to fully disconnect from home and work stress.

When it comes to social networking on websites like Facebook and Twitter, 23% of respondents said they like to stay active on the sites so they're connected while on vacation, but 60% said in order to fully enjoy their vacations, they need to "take a vacation" from social media overload.

Harris/Decima conducted the poll between April 14 and 19. It was an online survey of 2,006 Canadian panel members 18 years of age and older.
