Travel to and from Canada down

Fewer people travelled to and from Canada in May than April, Statistics Canada reports.

Travel to Canada dropped 1.9% in May from the previous month, with both trips from American and overseas travellers down.

U.S. travellers took 1.6 million trips to Canada in May, a 2.1% decrease compared to April. Travellers from the rest of the world took 354,000 trips to Canada in May, a 1.3% decrease.


The biggest decreases were for travellers from Italy (7%), Germany (6.8%) and the U.K. (5.4%).

Canadians have also been staying put. Travel to the U.S. decreased 1% to 3.7 million trips, while overseas trips went down 1.2% to 711,000.
