You needn't be rich to plan a beach vacation. Travel + Leisure's March issue profiles 27 affordable beach resorts, each one charging less than $250 a night, from the Puako B&B on Hawaii's Big Island ($98 a night) to the Hotel della Baia in Italy on the volcanic island of Ischia, known for hot springs and therapeutic mud ($183 a night). Elsewhere in Europe, in France, near the walled town of Concarneau in Brittany, a room at the new Les Sables Blanc inn goes for $191. Just don't expect tropical temperatures -- Brittany is on the northwest Atlantic Coast of France. Hotel Codina in San Sebastian, Spain, near the half-moon cove of Ondaretta Beach, is $221 a night. On St. Martin in the Caribbean, the Sole Luna Inn on the French half of the island, is $125 a night, while on St. Thomas, the Bellavista B&B is $175 a night. In Puerto Rico, Tres Sirenas Beach Inn is $170 a night in Rincon, including elaborate breakfasts. In Costa Rica, Bahari Beach Bungalows are $95 a night on the Pacific coast. The accommodations are four oversize safari tents -- with mesh walls, tiled floors, bathrooms and a thatched-roof, open-air dining room. In the U.S., Florida's Azul del Mar, in Key Largo, is a six-room Art Deco villa with private beach for $189 a night. The Sea View Inn in Carmel, Calif., at $135 a night, offers a fireside breakfast, tea and a beach on the Monterey Peninsula. In Mexico, Tiny Holbox Island, off the Yucatan Peninsula, is home to the 16-room CasaSandra Hotel, $190 a night, where the water is 50 steps from the door and you can fish for your dinner with the chef who'll prepare it for you.
